Exterior of Taqueria Cazadores on Mission Street with its colorful striped facade and walk-up window, San Francisco

Neighborhood: Mission District (Mission–SoMa border), San Francisco

Address: 1600 Mission St, San Francisco, CA 94103

Cazadores sits on that Mission–SoMa stretch where car rental lots, construction vests, and weekday errands dominate the landscape. It’s not the romanticized “Mission burrito alley” — it’s a practical, slightly chaotic corridor where lunch happens because you’re already nearby. Ordering is fast, the outdoor tables are an easy perch, and parking is a small war you will not win. This is a reliable daytime burrito stop for people who want good food without the pilgrimage.

What We Ordered (and What to Order)

I went with the Carne Asada Burrito, which the staff instantly named as their best — and honestly, they weren’t bluffing.

The Burrito Bible Score

Carne Asada Burrito - 7.2/10

  • Meat — 7.5/10: Good char, clean flavor, and confidently seasoned.

  • Salsa — 8/10: Fire-roasted, balanced heat, and—rare for SF—not watery. A legitimately top-tier salsa in the Bay. If they bottled it, I’d buy it.

  • Fillings — 7/10: Everything plays nicely together. Flavorful rice, beans, and all the goodies.

  • Tortilla — 7/10: Nice chew and good flavor.

  • Structure — 6.8/10: A few rice-dominant bites and some fold-corner quirks, but nothing that interrupts a very solid burrito experience.

  • Misc — 7/10: Nothing crazy, nothing disappointing.

Cut carne asada burrito wrapped in foil with four salsa cups—fire-roasted, roja, habanero, and verde—arranged in front.

What to Know Before You Order

  • Get the Carne Asada Burrito. The staff recommended it to me, and I’ll recommend it to you.

  • Get extra salsa, it’s the sleeper MVP.

  • A perfect workday burrito when you’re already in the Mission–SoMa orbit.

  • Parking can be a little rough, but I found a spot after a lap or two.

Bottom Line

Cazadores serves a confidently good carne asada burrito with one of the better salsas in San Francisco — all on a chaotic, errand-heavy stretch of Mission Street. It’s a strong, dependable choice when you need something flavorful and fast in the Mission–SoMa border zone. Order the carne asada, get extra salsa, and enjoy a burrito that earns a spot in your weekday rotation. We’re already planning the return trip.
